Track Loaders: All-Terrain Power & Versatility [2024]

Overview of Track Loaders

The compact track loader (track loader) combines the advantages of a tracked undercarriage with the versatility of a loader. These machines are designed to be used on challenging jobsites and feature excellent weight distribution and low ground pressure, providing the maximum level of breakout force in a small footprint. They are powered by a high-performance diesel engine, feature a responsive hydraulic system, and may have variable speed tracks to provide reliable power for digging, lifting, and material handling. The enclosed cabs of track loaders are designed for operator comfort and visibility and can include standard telematics and other diagnostic interfaces to help operators manage performance and schedule maintenance.

Track Loaders

In challenging environments, track loaders combine a solid tracked foundation with a compact loader. They have all-terrain capabilities, flexible track options for optimal speed and floatation, high-torque engines and rugged hydraulic systems for an even distribution of breakout force and smooth operation of attachments. Because their lift path, ballast, and rated operating capacity are specifically designed for safe and controlled lifting, track loaders use proportional joysticks that allow for precise control of their operations. In addition to caring for the operator and providing maximum comfort and safety, maintenance tasks are designed to maximize uptime, and track loaders have a centralized lubrication system. In addition to providing fewer ground disturbances, track loaders provide enhanced traction on soft soils, slopes, and uneven terrain where typical wheeled loaders lack traction.

F&Q About Track Loaders

What is a track loader, and what tasks is it best for?

A track loader has a tracked undercarriage that offers excellent stability and excellent traction while also allowing the machine to distribute its weight over a larger area.
Unlike wheeled equipment, track loaders have a continuous track. This helps to lower the weight of the machine on the ground (ground pressure) from what it would be with wheels and improve its flotation on soft ground and increase its traction on uneven ground.
Track loaders can be used with many different types of attachments; some examples of these include (but are not limited to) buckets with varying capacity, grapple attachments, rakes, trencher/power auger combinations, hydraulic thumbs & snow blade attachments, and mulch cutter attachments, to name a few.
In order to get the most life out of your equipment, you should regularly check and adjust the track tension, keep the undercarriage clean, inspect the hydraulic hoses/fittings, perform oil/filter changes.

Advantages of Track Loaders

All-Terrain Stability

By distributing the weight of the tracked undercarriage over a larger surface area, they apply less pressure to the ground and allow for more flotation than wheeled equipment on muddy, sandy, and uneven ground.

Powerful Hydraulics and Precise Control

A hydraulic system with high flow rates, responsive control joystick, and adjustable ride height, offers stable breakout force, consistent and smooth bucket motion, fast attachment changeover, etc.,

Versatility with Attachments

Because of their versatility in product design, track loaders typically come with one or multiple tool attachments, allowing the operator to quickly and easily attach various attachments (quick couplers) to their machine such as bucket attachments for excavation material and material handling and multiple buckets for additional types of material.

Operator Comfort and Safety

The cabin brings together various features to create a comfortable workspace for the operator. It combines climate control, a quiet operating environment, ergonomically-designed seats, and a good view of the work area.
